I haven't noticed this before, but it seems that for a while it says "Splash 2.0 - Splash 3.0 coming soon together with Action 5". Is anybody else as excited about this as me? Has Mirillis released any info about this release?

The Problem seems to be that Splash doesn't detect the Advanced SSA format for subtitles from within the mkv container, and instead treats the attached information as a standard text file which then results in additional information available being shown as text.

Thanks so much for adding Dolby Digital Plus to Splash Player 2.3 and making it free on top. I really appreciate this and I am sure more people do.

I hate to be the barer of bad news but I doubt it will happen any time soon. Splash player 2 seems to use the LEAD SDK for codecs instead of the custom codecs they claim to have on the main page.
