I don't use Vegas, but have you tried recording to AVI instead and editing the video that way? What you're doing now is you're exporting to a lossy format (H.264) just so you can drop it into Vegas, edit it, and re-export it to yet another lossy format, so you can, I'll assume... upload it to YouTub...
