Under Windows 8 video overlay is forced. I think that causes subtitles to be visible just one frame, and they dissapear right after. It is not possible to read them at all.

OK, after I install 290.36 version of nVidia dirvers, I started to be able to read subtitles. It seems to be a driver problem.

In the mean time, I have exact same problem with Intel Display drivers on my notebook.

Here is an update for my problem with subtitles.

I do confirm that subtitles are visible under Windows 8 developer preview in certain conditions.

1- Subtitles are not transparent. They cover a rectangular area as black, and text on that black area.
2- Subtitles are not visible if you are not using certain nVidia graphic cards. In my case, I have two graphic cards G210, and 580 GTX. I have visible subtitles as described above using 580 GTX. Unfortunately, I cannot see any subtitle (it appears just for a fraction of time) with G210 adapter with same driver versions on same computer.

in order to get the subtitles background in splash pro(ex) to be transparent just disable video overlay under "settings-video"
