Upcoming Splash Lite 1.1 info

Expected release date: postponed until 30 Dec 2009.

Changes:
* New H.264 software decoding core. New v2.0 decoding core includes optimizations for Intel SSSE3 and SSE4.1 extensions and is up to 30% faster than v1.0. It also features a new SMP model to allow multicore video decode regardless of video sequence types.
* Fixed playback of unindexed MKV videos
* GPU video decoding improvements on nVidia GPUs (decoding of 1920x1080 H.264 video streams with more than 5 reference frames)
* LPCM audio in VOBs support
* Support for files with more then 6 audio tracks
* Several other fixes

I guess, calling it v1.1 would be better, considering the new core. Speaking of which, is the "30% faster" applies only to SSSE3 and SSE4.1 extension support, or can be expected for example with SSE2 too?

Better multi-core support is also very welcomed, considering, that I have AMD with ATI (AMD) .

Well we wanted to call it v1.1 but since we had to completely change our H.264 software decoding core architecture... it was upgraded to v2.0 The old version did not handle video streams with long video sequences "very well" (in fact a more harsh desctiption would be suitable here )

From our benchmarks the new core is 25-30% faster on CPUs with SSE2 and 35%+ on SSSE3 (we don't have SSE4.1 benchmarks, yet). It also performs much better on various video sequence types (especially those with very long GOPs or with small number of Intra frames). The "tune in" time has also been improved.

By v1.1 I meant Splash Lite not its core. 1.0.6 tells me, that some of the bugs in 1.0.5 have been fixed. 1.1 would tell me, that there is something new in it.

For the core, stepping from 1.0 to 2.0 seems quite justified.

Anyway, no matter what the name is, I'm looking forward to see the next version Thx for the benchmark results!

An other suggestion then: please, make it possible to drag'n'drop files onto the desktop icon (to start Splash for playing the video). I can do that with all of my players (and I consider it as a basic Windows feature), except Splash Lite.

Are you planning to add Vorbis&FLAC support in future releases?
And what about full ass/ssa support? There are problems with timing when it shoud be not only one line of text (and also tags are not supported)

Also some bugs (or things that are illogical):
- if in fullscreen mode mouse dissapeared, than press Enter (to windowed and to fullscreen again) two times - mouse won't dissapear over time
- external subtitles loads and shows by default, but as for integrated in mkv subtitles - you have to turn them on manually.
- not all AVC video could be played used hardware acceleration (e.g. 1280x720@60fps with 16ReFrames on my system), so
if player could switch to software mode (instead of just showing black screen) - it would be nice
- if using video overlay - player crashes when trying to play incompatible with hardware acceleration avc video using hardware acceleration.
- when switching to the next file using PgDn (or next file button) - first it shows name of next file, then it dissapeares, than it starts playback of next file and then it shows file name again (I guess I see all this because of my slow CPU).
- when pressing icon in tray player doesn't minimises; when player minimised - if you move mouse to the tray icon - it shows preview window, but when you move mouse to the preview window player doesn's show up.

We are aware of this problem, this is probably becuase we use very simple installer at the moment and it creates desktop shortcut that does not support drag'n'drop.

Currently the only solution is to delete this shortcut and create manually a new shortcut from Splashlite.exe.

We will investigate and try to fix this issue later.

There will be really small improvements for GPU video decoding on Nvidia. Probably no improvements for ATI.
Do you experience any problems with ATI gpu decoding in SPlash Lite 1.0.5 that should be improved?
