Hardware acceleration problem.

Wed Dec 23, 2009 12:40 am

When playing 1080p MPEG-4 movies, the CPU usage is 100%. I cannot set "Use hardware acceleration " option, it’s unavailable. My graphic card is Gainward Bliss GF 8800 GTX running under Windows XP Prof, Splash Lite v. 1.0.5. Any suggestions?

Same problem with a greyed out GPU box, but different setup (WinXP Pro, GMA 4500 running latest drivers, Splash Lite 1.0.5). My machine is dual-boot, and on the Windows 7 partition, I have no problems.

Intel graphics accelerators require Windows Vista or Windows 7 for video decoding acceleration.
Hardware accelerated video decoding is not available on Windows XP with Intel cards.

Version 195.62 (the newest) is currently in use. I also tried a few earlier versions of drivers without success.

What's the hardware requirements for hardware acceleration?

For me Splash works better than VLC but CPU utilization is 100%.
In settings hardware accelaration is greyed out.

I have updated GPU drivers and Catalyst software.

Hardware acceleration for HD videos may not work in some cases on ATI 2400/2600 on WindowsXP with latest drivers.
For some reason hardware accelerated HD video decoding is blocked with new drivers.
Please try installing drivers 7.10.

Aha, ok you are right. I installed the old Catalyst drivers 7.10 and now hardware acceleration is available!
Thanks!

Hardware acceleration is now working fine in Power DVD but not in Splash.
The movie is very stuttering but most often the computer hang. Reset is the only way out.
