Settings > Fullscreen Display Settings:

Problem ... A forced 4:3 format video of widescreen footage.

Question ... Is there not way to correct this distortion through the viewer?

I can switch my monitor between 4:3 (1.33:1) and 16:10 (1.6:1), but if the source material (2.35:1) has been unjustly distorted to render fullframed 4:3 video (everybody's skinny!) then there is no way for me to restore the widescreen proportions. (1.6:1 is better but even 1.7:1 still would fall short).

Or am I missing something? I could not find any viewer that fixes this problem, but yours does seem to come the closest.

I see your point, but we are trying to avoid adding options used hardly never.
Besides as I undertand someone prepared the file incorrectly, if we support it, he would do it again. Can you imagine what could happen? Norms and standards would be worth nothing.
We already support many files beyond the standard specification, but aspect ratio is one of those which we assume must be correct.
