When playing any video file using GPU acceleration, Win 7 just shutdowns unexpectedly and randomly. This i s happening on 1.5, 1.6 and now on 1.7 versions. Tried different players - they work, but I like picture quality of Splash :) Any suggestions?

Does it happen with all file types?
Does it happen with Motion2 disabled?

I use Splash only for HD .mkv and some HD mp4. Happens with both types. Motion2 is always disabled, like the player doesn't support it. Its not a hardware problem - all new games run perfectly, even CrySis 2 on DX10. Passed Prime95 stress test: 34 tests in 1 hour 33 min - 0 errors, 0 warnings.

CPU -AMD Athlon64 X2 5000+ 2.66 GHz 512 L2 Cache
MoBo -ASUS M2N X-PLUS
RAM - 2GB Dual A-Data 1066 MHz
HDD - WC 640 GB 32MB Cache///Hitachi 320 GB
VGA - SAPPHIRE ULTIMATE HD3870 512MB GDR4
PSU - FoxCon 400W UltraQuiet

hope you don't mind, just my 2 cents

you can try:
(a) no overclock if any
(b) bios default setting
(c) case cover removed
(d) blow with electric fan

if problem gone, then it's overheat

if problem persists, try a slower VGA card like HD3550, OR, try a more powerful PSU, as it may be the HD3870 drawing too much current

can also try put in 2G RAM more, see whether it helps

hope it helps

a - No overclocking of any kind
b - Bios has been updated to latest version with default settings
c - I have extra big fan on the case to remove heated air from inside
d - PC have been cleaned 2-3 week ago and it's not place on the floor - it's 1m up

If the problem is overheating, not much power or small ram then the big games like Crysis 2 or any stress test would indicate that and only SplashPRO causing shutdowns - with MPC-HC everything s fine. Thanks anyway for trying

Thank you for a feedback.
I would suspect overheating also but it should affect games as well.
What is your graphics drivers version?

What does mean that Windows shuts down?
Like a normal user action to shutdown or is it a crash?

And what does mean "Motion2 is always disabled, like the player doesn't support it"?
Your PC sepcification probably should handle Motion2 with hardware accelrated video decoding.

HI,
Driver version is 11.3 from 29.03.2011.
This is what's happening: starting to play HD .mkv, GPU indication is ON, and after 5 sec (sometimes more) PC just turns off, immediately (crashes), like there is no electricity.
Motion2 is blurred in options, like you cant do anything with it (disable).

Thanks for explanation.
The problem with Windows seems extremly strange and worrying.
We have never been reported about any similar problem.

Can you check if this problem will repeat when force video overlay is enabled in settings/video?
I undersand that with hardware acceleration disabled it does not happen?

To enable Motion2 try the following:
1) stop video playback
2) open playback options
3) enable Best Quality option

I'm testing. Will post results later.

P.S. Problem is present even with GPU OFF
