mkv containing dolby digital plus

I'm attempting to play a mkv file which contains a dolby digital plus soundtrack. Video plays fine but I get a red exclamation mark in Splash Pro which seems to indicate it's unable to downconvert audio to stereo (I'm playing this on a laptop). It says "Output mode: HDMI Bistream" yet I'm not connected to any external devices. Am I missing something? How can I get SP to play audio in stereo? This is v1.7.0. Thanks!
