Best settings & decoder

Hi!

Two questions for you, my Splash pro friends:

1) What is your "Best settings"? I use 10 5 5 (motion, detal, light boost)

2) A friend told me that I could get a better quality image using madVR decoder and force it to be used with SP. What about it?

1. First, it's better to turn them off. It's long story to explain how to get the best result.
But it depends on your source video file, display screen, graphic card and etc.
You have to find the effect of each settings.

2. madVR and Splash?

Don't forget again to add your PC specification: Intel Core i3 (what model?), ATI HD 5650, (what OS?), 4GB RAM

1) There are no "best" settings. Some setting can be better for you, but worse to someone else. And of course it depend on source and so on.
So, as for me - I'm watching high quality BDRip's (and other video that has same quality) and I don't find detail and light boost useful.
Motion² is the other thing. Higher number means smoother result by the cost of the artifacts. If I'm using it - I always use 10.

2) It's not possible to use other renderer or decoder or anything else with splash, so Splash + madVR is impossible.
But, madVR is better render (it's not the decoder!) than Splash's renderer due to higher precision and better upscaling algorithms. On the other hand Motion² is unique, and with other players you have to use SVP, which uses much more resources.

Also there is such thing as 10-bit video (mostly anime rips), which should be played using CoreAVC (with 10bit output) or internal madVR decoder (it also has 10 bit output) + madVR. Splash doesn't support 10-bit video yet.

Don't worry. Splash has quite acceptable decoder quality and player

The important missed feature is MPEG2 Feed 4:2:2

If you've got a decent Video Card, Splash is good. I like that it is stand alone and has its own decoder. Cpu usage is surprisingly low. As for settings, I do not use Motion2 because it is not needed. It depends on the file you are trying to play. Use MEDIA Info to get more detail on your files.

Motion2 shines in some videos like the sample from Canon 500D 20p or even my T3 30p.

Yes, that's a review of 6450 as HTPC card. How should I link this review to your words? Can you explain it a bit more? Thanks

Each video card has different video quality:

Mostly, new and powerful graphic cards have better quality with latest driver.
