.sub file for subtitles not working (INVESTIGATING)

Hi,
Splash pro does not pick up .sub files automatically as it does with .srt files. Even when I manually open the .sub file by clicking Subtitles menu button, I get the error "failed to open input file".
I thought .sub support was added many versions ago. Am I missing something?
