DVD playback from folder?

Sat May 08, 2010 9:33 am

First off - this is the only player so far that I would consider paying for. The upcoming specifications for upscaling and motion control appear impressive, but a couples of questions for clarification;
1) DVD playback from folder on hdd is currently not supported, as mentioned in a previous post this is being implemented for future release but when? - this feature must be attractive for a lot of potential users as the only other way to upscale standard def to 720p/1080p is using outdated software that is not integrated into player.
2) Cannot seem to find an indication of cost and whether or not any future updates to the player are free???
3) Is May still the release date for Pro???? :)

Hello, thank for the feedback!

3) PRO version is finished, we are completing licensing formalities. As soon as licensing is competed we will release PRO version. We cannot define exact release date as it does not depend on us at this moment.

2) The price will be published after we complete some parts of licensing formalities. Updates up to new version 2.0 (planned for next year) will be free and we will publish the list of ll free planned updates soon.

1) DVD playback is not supported yet. We are determined to add this feature but it requires lots of licensing work and it will not be included in first version of PRO.

If you have any other questions, we would be happy to help.

I wonder, how does VLC add support for DVD? It's an opensource player isn't it?

An open source developer does not have to worry about licensing formalities and expensive lawsuits. As soon as you use a piece of code to obtain profit, than you have to jump through hoops to release a program.
