No sound in MKV

Sat Jul 24, 2010 12:18 pm

Hello all

I tried to play the MKV of Repo Man tonight and for some reason I can not get any sound. The file plays the video perfectly but no sound comes through at all. I get sound on Media PLayer Classic, Windows Media Player, VLC etc. Hopefully the following info re: the audio properties helps:

Audio
ID : 3
Format : DTS
Format/Info : Digital Theater Systems
Codec ID : A_DTS
Duration : 1h 59mn
Bit rate mode : Constant
Bit rate : 1 510 Kbps
Channel(s) : 6 channels
Channel positions : Front: L C R, Side: L R, LFE
Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz
Bit depth : 24 bits
Stream size : 1.26 GiB (19%)

Is there a codec problem?? Audio is set to 5.1 channels in the options.

Cheers

Tristan

The problem is mux. I demux using MKVExtractGUI and mux again using MeGUI. New file works fine and hear audio. :)

Mirillis should fix this issue because mux/remux is not a normal fix in this situation.

how sad is that!

splash did not stick to the matroska specs and so the new mkvmerge 4.1.x with zlib comrpession makes problems.

SERIOUSLY fix that, i did not expect that poor programming from Mirillis :x

Well it was definitely annoying but it ended up being an easy fix. I downloaded mkvtoolnix and remuxed the audio with 'no compression' (under advanced tab in audio) and all is good. Thanks for all the help guys. Hopefully Mirillis implements a fix as I have bought the pro version.

Same problem here on some videos. We shouldn't fix this by remuxing, they should fix it in their player to accept it as it is and stick to specs.

I now use the trial version and I don't have any plans to buy this software if this issues are not adressed.

I believe most of the HDMI issues reported also include no sound in some mkv files. Looking forward for the next version :P
