Cannot seek/fast forward MKV file

Tue Aug 10, 2010 11:56 am

Hi, folks. I love your product so far; however, I have a problem seeking/fast forwarding certain MKV files. The files play properly, but when I attempt to fast forward them the picture does not change; only the audio advances properly. These files behave properly in MPC HC. Some additional information about these files:

AC3 5.1 audio
MKV container
H 264/AVC (1980 x 800) video

I am using an ATI 5770 with the dxva enabled on a Q6600. Any suggestions?

Hi jwedwards75,

could you please provide us some more info:
- video encoder (encoded with x264 or left original video stream) ?
- mkv muxer - tool name and version (if you mux/remux it yourself)?
- file size, length may help
- movie title (is it a trailer of full movie)

regards,

Helios,

I did not encode the file myself, so I cannot answer all of your questions. What I can tell you is that the movie is Clash of the Titans (2010), which is 106 minutes and (only) 8.63 gb (must have been encoded in x264 by its creator, I suspect, given this file size). While the file plays flawlessly in MPC HC, it cannot seek/fast forward; when I attempt to do so the audio advances but the video does not. Thanks for your continued help.

Update:

I looked at the problematic file (Clash of the Titans) with mediainfo and here is what I found:

The writing application for the file is MKV merge 4.1.1
The writing library is libebml v 1.0.0 + libmatrosaka v 1.0

A second file (Youth in Revolt)--one that plays flawlessly, is encoded as follows:

The writing application for the file is MKV merge 3.4.0
The writing library is libebml v 0.8.0 + libmatrosaka v 0.9.0

There is no difference in the frame rate or the mbps of the two files.

Interestingly enough, I have a third mkv file (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) that plays video fine but does not play audio. It has the same specs as the first mkv file (Clash of the Titans) above. However, it is DTS audio and the frame rate and mbps are smaller (720p).

Any suggestions?

plaese wait a while for neerest Splash update, it should fix the problem.
