GPU powered Motion2

Wed Sep 15, 2010 8:59 pm

I believe the Motion2 at this stage is too heavy on the CPU at this stage, my CPU is an Intel Pentium dual core T4400 at 2.2 ghz and watching 720p content with Motion2 makes my CPU go way up to 90% and the Splash Pro exe is using somewhere 85-90% of the whole CPU. If i try watching 1080p it makes terrible lag. Also while watching 720p the motion is not quite so fluent, from time to time i get a few lag.

When can we expect GPU powered Motion2? Because most HTPC's and notebooks don't have high end processors and can't play movies with Motion 2 (eg. ULV and Atom processors with Ion and better graphics).

Thanks for listening :D

mirillis is currently in the process of optimizing MCFI for CPU and once they've hit their target, they'll move onto GPU. However, developing for the GPU will depend on the tools provided by NVIDIA and AMD. So hopefully when mirillis prepares to enter the world of GP-GPU, we will have tools that are effective and easy to take advantage of.

Like NieloTM said, first we will introduce some performance improvements for CPU based Motion2.
We hope to introduce significant optimizations soon.
