Ffdshow Settings

Mon Oct 04, 2010 6:06 pm

I tried to uninstall ffdshow , as I thought it may be causing me some problems with Splash Pro . However , then Splash Pro would prompt me to install a Divx decoder ( for avi files , I think ) . I don't know too much about the decoder thing - but it appears that ffdshow , on installation , makes itself default decoder for many types - not just divx . Can you recommend the proper settings for ffdshow , that will allow SplashPro to work the best . If it's system dependant , I have a 3 yr old HP laptop with Vista32, Intel 1.8GHz, Intel 965 intergrated graphics .
Thanks .

I think, the default settings are good for you. Other way: install an all-in-one codec package like K-Lite or Windows 7 Codecs. They are contain more than you need, but it's highly configured by default, you dont have to change.

FFDShow: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/ffdshow.htm
K-Lite: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/k_l ... c_pack.htm
Windows 7 Codecs: http://shark007.net/win7codecs.html

BTW: what was the problems you mention before?

Thanks Joco1114 . Problems as in my post http://www.mirillis.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=484 . Since I upgraded to V. 1.2.3 this has got worse . Now with avi files too . So I thought maybe the ffdshow has some influence on this .
If a certain file type has the ffdshow associated with it , will SplashPro then override , and use it's own Mirrilis codec , or what ?

Maybe I am wrong, but IMHO FFDShow is a DirectShow decoding filter for decompressing DivX, XviD, H.264, FLV1, WMV, MPEG-1 and MPEG-2, MPEG-4 movies. It's not a player. So you have to install if you want to play DivX coded files.
And yes, Splash will override some settings and will use internal codecs. (Ghost, please confirm it!)

My opinions:
1. try a clean install of your operating system. Install drivers, DirectX, Splash Pro and ffdshow.
2. try to associate file type to Splash Pro. Right click on the video file, choose "Properties..." (the last option in the local menu - my system language is hungarian, I dont knwo the proper menu text) and using the associate button you can assign the file type to Splash Pro.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Joco1114 .
1. Clean install - there may well be something in that - but I don't think I currently have the time and patience for that exercise . I know order of these things can sometimes be important - so I may try DirectX, Splash Pro and ffdshow as you suggested .
2.I have set the associations from Control Panel . At any rate I tried your method - wasn't aware of it - it will set the association - but still the same problem for those types mentioned .

What's happened meanwhile? Is the problem solved?
If not, I have an other idea:
Run regedit and choose [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.avi\UserChoice]
key and delete all key with subkeys and content.
After this procedure you can assign SplashPro for file types.

(P.S.: replace ".avi" with all extensions you need.)

Thanks Joco1114 . The newer version of Splash hasn't changed anything .
I decided to try Regedit - but it would not let me delete thos entries .
Anyway , i am ennclosing copies of Regedit fro .avi and .mkv . They are different . .mkv always works , .avi the stated problem .

Try to export AVI settings at [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.avi\UserChoice]
than delete it! Try to associate AVI again with right click on an AVI Properties, Associate. It must work!

(if you got worst situation, import registry keys exported before)

I ran regedit as Admin - it still won't let me delete those 2 entries .

Return to “Splash PRO”
