GPU performance for Motion 2

Sun Dec 12, 2010 12:49 pm

I'm testing Motion 2 engine in 720p movies (23.99 fps). I'm not sure if it works not exactly smooth or if my gpu is too weak. Wide camera movements are almost smooth only in 9x-10x amount. If it's set lower, movie is also smoother but not like in hd tv's which has motion interpolation system (i haven't that tv but I saw in store). However, mixed scenes (no big moves or a lot of different scenes in one time) behave strange. Like gpu would didn't noticed as far as it should to double fps or not. Feeling is like in game, that once runs smoothly (f.e. 40fps), once when there's more details to display, slows fps down (f.e. 22 fps).
I have notebook 1,5 old with Radeon HD3470, which is rather not a performance demon. It has a 337 mhz gpu clock and 247 mhz memory clock (256mb DDR2). It's best for games of 2004 and 2005 year. Newer games runs on lower details and/or resolutions. Native display resoluton is 1366x768. I have Pentium Core 2 Duo T6400 2x2.0 ghz. Windows 7 64-bit.

So how do you think? My gpu is too weak or Motion 2 engine runs properly, just like it does?

As far as I know, GPU is not used for motion algorithms.

have you noticed by any chance the CPU usage while playing the video?

This is hard to say because your PC specification may be on the endge of performance for 720p Motion2. Please check your CPU usage. Do you use hardware acceleration for video decoding?

From your description it seems that Motion2 skipps smoothing because of low cpu resources.
