For example?
And which a crappy player for everything you have in mind?

MPC-HC of course ;)
Ok, it's not crappy, but just not as good as splash in some things...
E.g. CPU usage is much higher (about 2-3 times) (on slow atom cpu + gpu video decoding), gui is much faster, much better playlist...
Plus some my friens have problems with ati + dxva (and playing with settings and drivers didn't help much), but with Splash everything just works perfectly.
Desktop (Intel i7-970, ATI 5870, Windows 7 x64)
Acer Aspire TimelineX 3830TG (Intel i5-2410M, nVidia GT540M, Windows 7 x64)
PS Vita, Nokia N8

We have FLV support included in our plans.
We collect and note all user suggestions but FLV is not our priority at the moment and I would not expect this in PRO 1.x.x version.

We investigate the development and licensing issues with FLV and hope to provide some more information soon.

So Ghost,

When can we expect the FLV support to kick in? I know you guys are busy with Action! but when is a new update for PRO coming about? It's near perfect, just needs a little work.

Yeah, I just don't want to use more than one player. Plus I think that covering as many codecs and formats as possible is absolutely crucial.

VLC is only popular because it can play everything you throw at it - same goes for MPC, so why can't Splash be the same?

heh

Support is not planned for Splash 1.x versions because of licensing issues.
Open source players can add freely new codecs etc as they do not pay any patent fees and do not need any licensing and contracts.

But FLV is a container not codec and can be converted to MP4 without re-encoding :?

Ah yes, that makes sense. Just reading through the Wiki on FLV shows that mainly, if not only, the freeware players have support for it.

But realistically, how much would the licensing cost for it? Is it worth it?
