Why? Splash Pro works perfectly... The problem with the lack of updates is actually in your heads. :D

Action! is our new software and need to be taken care a bit more than Splash which actually function fine in most cases, of course there are features and fixes that you would like to see in next Splash versions and we scrupulously write them down so we will have a list from which we can pick up easily while making next update. But first we want Action! to get as stable as possible, and we will start working on Splash players updates as soon as it's possible.

We are already working on new Splash version. New Splash update will mainly include improvements to make it Windows 8 fully compatible and AVI files playback support improvements. We do not have release date defined yet but it should be available soon. We will post more information soon on our Facebook.
Further Splash update is planned to introduce subtitles support improvements.

Thanks for the update Ghost! The Win8 support will be a big bonus to me at the moment as I've switched all my devices to Windows 8 RTM.
A minor update with just bug fixes (+Win8 support :P) would be much appreciated as im sure there is a number of "lab features" you have cooking up that are slowing down development. So don't bother merging your GIT/SVN/etc branches :P.

It only needs a major update. Many basic features don't work :(

Okay, here's a few things off the top of my head:

1. Full mkv support (that means 10-bit which has become a standard for anime).
2. VOBSUB - 2011 it was discussed here and we still don't have it:
http://www.mirillis.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=628
3. Speaking of subtitles, they still need a lot of work. A lot of stuff has extra location and such info that ends up being lumped together in the sub and it's hard to read the actual sub itself.
4. Indexing is non existent. The player doesn't recognize tags for things like chapters, intro, etc.

All of the stuff is just the basics. Work on the basics first, then go for the bonus goodies. It's painful to see even the most vanilla of players offers all of the above. Heck, even the free stuff on my tablet handles better which is sad. I really like this player but I can't promote it to my friends in its current state. :(
