Motion 2 eat too CPU usage

Fri Mar 04, 2011 2:11 am

I buy Splash Pro 1.5 but I find that when I play 1080P movie and turn on motion2 , my Q8200 CPU cannot handle smoothly. but 9450 CPU is OK. I think that it is not CPU problem. I hope that you can make a improvment , so it can be fine in Q8200. because it is also Quard core CPU.

Q9450 is about 25% faster than Q8200.
Plus hardware accelerated video decoding ("GPU" icon on the bottom left) can make difference.
So... it could be CPU problem.
What is CPU usage with and without motion2 on same video on both systems (with Q8200 and Q9450)?
Desktop (Intel i7-970, ATI 5870, Windows 7 x64)
Acer Aspire TimelineX 3830TG (Intel i5-2410M, nVidia GT540M, Windows 7 x64)
PS Vita, Nokia N8

Hi.. I have the same problem, the CPU goes to 100% when active Motion2
Fails to soften the movement because, the FPS (frames per second) are unstable due to the very high 100% CPU usage
¿Is this nomal or I have a configuration problem?
My system setup is:
CPU: Intel C2D E2160@3Ghz, 2GB Ram
GTS250 Nvidia Graphic Card
Last Nvidia 266.58 drivers
Windows 7 64 bit

¿Any solution?

Thanks.

post full system specs in both configs...

I doubt it's the 8200 (2.33Ghz 4MB cache)

I'll add my 2 cents to this topic. Yes, CPU usage with Motion2 enabled is NOT normal. For me it goes from 50 to 80%. That's just crazy.

Frame interpolation is task that required a lot of analysis. E.g. it's possible to achieve better quality - by the cost of CPU (e.g. 3+ Ghz 4 or 6 core processor).
So yes, it's not normal. It's much less that could be.

Still not an excuse. Probably there's another algorithm which allows lower CPU usage with the same output quality. And I wish developers the best in finding it.

Right now Motion2 is well... not very good comparing to Philips' Natural Motion, but pretty much passable. But CPU usage is awful. Had to turn it off.

Frame Interpolation (Motion2) requires a powerful CPU (especially when processing 720p or 1080p videos). Lowering CPU usage will result in poor performance. Think of it like running vector based graphics on a CPU.

It is better to move Frame Interpolation (Motion2) to the GPU, but we don't know when that will occur.

running 1.60 and 1.70 (with all the niceties on) on the relatively powerful quad-core AMD945@3.6G with the humble on-board GF8100 caused GPU over-heat

it seems that the software has been quite demanding on the GPU already

So, I guess, 3 GHz Core 2 Duo processor considers to be a "not powerful CPU" nowadays.
