I propose to make the refresh rate of "SmartSeek" was instantaneous.
An illustrative example: http://www.mediafire.com/?xk43fulzc5vtz2l

P.S. Now SmartSeek is not particularly convenient and useful

YouTube "SmartSeek" is a fake. Seeking YouTube frames doesn't show actual position. If you click on a frame you would like to see it will show totally different moment.

It's not fake... They just generate small thumbnails (~100x62) for each second of video. Problem in how seeking in flash works (to keyframes). But this is not such a big deal - keyframes are usually set each 10 seconds or less.

Splash also seeks to keyframes. But it generates thumbnails just for them. So, indeed, it seeks to what it shows. But it not as fast as it could be... It could be instantaneous and continuous (as youtube shows).

Personally, I'm happy even without smartseek. I'd rather prefer to see full .ass subtitles support, Hi10P support, improved QuickSync decoder and improved renderer (with higher internal precision, better upsaling algorithms and final dihtering to 8-bit RGB).

How to enable/use QuickSync decoder?

QS decoder is now used via DXVA (I suppose). However such implementation have problems with H.264 streams with big number of reference frames (e.g. 16). Egur's decoder, that uses Intel MSDK doesn't have such issues.

Another example of a successful implementation of technology SmartSeek:
MPC-BE (SmartSeek 1) — very fast update of preview (SmartSeek) :!:
Splash PRO EX (SmartSeek 1) — very slow update of preview (SmartSeek) :(

MPC-BE (SmartSeek 2) — very fast update of preview (SmartSeek) :!:
Splash PRO EX (SmartSeek 2) — very slow update of preview (SmartSeek) :(

You can download the MPC-BE from here:

Thanks for the files, we will see how does this work in compared software .
