Since a year I've been an intensive user of Splash. All this time the following problem exists:
- play 24p movie
- use hardware acceleration
- set PC's video output to 24Hz
The above combination will give terrible stutter. This has been tested on several ATI and nVidia cards.
However when you use Mirillis' software decoder, everything plays perfectly smooth!
My current setup is to set the PC's video output to 60Hz. Then the hardware acceleration works. I let my Panasonic TV do the motion interpolation. My CPU can't handle Motion2.
While the 60Hz setup gives acceptable results, you're at the mercy of the motion interpolation (in my case the TV's). To play back a movie as true as possible to the original, sometimes 24p without motion interpolation would be nice.
I'm puzzled why this gets broken by hardware acceleration...
