Tips for Optimizing Screen Recording Performance on Mid-Range PCs?

Tue Sep 23, 2025 8:00 am

Hi everyone, I’ve been using Mirillis Action! for a while on my mid-range PC, but sometimes I notice slight lag or dropped frames during recording at 1080p. Are there any specific settings or tweaks you’d recommend to get smoother recordings without upgrading my hardware?

Use hardware acceleration if your GPU supports it (NVIDIA NVENC or AMD VCE). It takes a lot of load off the CPU.

Hey! I’ve had similar issues with Action! on my setup too — mid-range PC, trying to squeeze out smooth 1080p recordings. I turned off Windows Game Mode and background apps while recording. Helped free up some resources.

I've always been curious about how hardware acceleration, especially using NVIDIA NVENC or AMD VCE, impacts performance. The point about it taking a load off the CPU is particularly interesting. In my own experience, I've noticed significant improvements in both processing speed and the ability to multitask more

On mid-range PCs, the key is balancing quality with performance. Lowering the recording resolution or frame rate can make a big difference without hurting clarity too much. Using hardware encoding (like NVENC or AMD VCE) takes load off the CPU and keeps things smoother. Closing background apps, recording to a fast drive, and keeping your GPU drivers updated also help. Small adjustments in the recorder’s settings often fix stuttering or lag right away.
