1440p/60fps MP4/AVI Recordings Suddenly Corrupted (0 KB files) - AMD AMF H.264

Wed Oct 01, 2025 1:07 am

Hello,

For some very strange reasons, half of the videos I recorded over the past few days have suddenly become corrupted and also no longer exist.

These are not very long videos, like 10 or 30+ minutes; they are just short, manually recorded videos with a maximum length of 1–3 minutes. All videos I recorded I was immediately able to view, which I did multiple times because I recorded them as a manual recap of recent in-game events.

Technical Details and Troubleshooting
Corrupted Videos: All videos that show a loading circle as the thumbnail apparently do not exist anymore, as they are all 0 KB in file size, even though these were all working videos that I opened multiple times after I recorded them. A few hours later, some of my recordings had become corrupted.

Recording Settings:

I'm recording in 1440p, 60 fps.

Video quality is set to "High."

Force bitrate is set to 25.1 Mbps.

Codec/Format: I have tried both MP4 and AVI; the issue occurs with both. I use and am still using MP4 as the primary codec.

Multicore recording is enabled.

Record sound is enabled.

Hardware/Encoding:

HWA (Hardware Acceleration) is enabled and is using AMD AMF H.264.

My graphics card, an AMD RX 9070 XT, is on the latest driver (25.9.1).

Storage: I have more than enough free space. Action! is installed on my Windows M.2 SSD. My Windows hard drive has more than 10 GB of free space. All recordings are no longer than 1–2 minutes, as they are basically short video clips that I manually recorded.

Software Status: Action! is on the latest version. My entire system is up-to-date, and Windows Update is on the latest version.

Troubleshooting Attempts (No Luck):

I already tried using VLC to recover those corrupted videos.

I tried opening these videos in a different player.

I already restarted Action! as well as my whole PC.

Ensure your SSD and HDD are not experiencing errors. Run a disk check:
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
- Run:

Code: Select all

chkdsk /f /r
on both your M.2 SSD and your Windows hard drive.
This will identify and fix file system errors that could corrupt files.

That's really frustrating! I've experienced similar corruption issues with short recordings, especially when using high bitrates. It might be worth checking if your storage drive has enough free space or if there are any write errors. Sometimes recording software conflicts with certain games can cause this too. I notice you mention in-game recordings - I had similar issues when recording gameplay of puzzle games like Block Blast. Try lowering your bitrate temporarily to see if the corruption stops, and maybe enable backup recording if your software supports it.

What helped me was temporarily switching to CPU encoding to test stability, then rolling back to a slightly older AMD driver version. I also found that recording to a different drive than the system drive reduced corruption instances. The sudden file corruption you're describing sounds frustrating, particularly when the files worked initially. As a break from troubleshooting technical issues like this, you might enjoy playing heardle for some relaxing entertainment.

Oh, I'm sorry but I did that already. I should've mentioned that in my OP.

Still encoundering the same issue though.

I ran the command you shared, but it didn't work. Why is that?

My SSD's are all fine.

It's March 13th, 2026 and I still experience this issue.
