How to optimize video recording performance with Mirillis Action!

Tue Aug 05, 2025 8:59 am

Hello everyone on the Mirillis forum,
I am currently using Mirillis Action! to record gameplay videos and tutorials, but recently I have encountered performance issues when recording at high resolutions (1080p and above) – the video is slightly jerky or missing frames. My computer configuration is quite good (i7, 16GB RAM, GTX 1660 GPU), but it still does not record smoothly at high bitrates. I would like to ask if there is any setting in Mirillis Action! that helps optimize performance while maintaining good video quality? Can anyone share their experiences or recommended configurations for me to refer to? Thanks!

Try converting the video format from AVI to MP4 and enabling hardware acceleration (Intel Quick Sync or NVIDIA NVENC) in the settings.

I’ve run into similar issues when pushing 1080p or higher, even with decent specs.

I installed a new player, converted all my videos to MP4, which seemed like a good idea.

Hey, I've had the exact same issue with Action! on my i7 setup with a GTX 1660—jerky 1080p even at decent bitrates. Switch to MP4 with NVIDIA NVENC in the Video Recording tab (it's hardware accelerated and way lighter on CPU/GPU than x264). Set bitrate to 20-30k for starters, enable "Use Multicore Rendering," and drop game FPS cap to 60 if needed. Also check NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings for Action!—set Power Management to "Prefer Maximum Performance." That smoothed mine out perfectly. What game are you recording? LMK if it works!

I totally get the frustration with recording issues, especially at high resolutions. While I can't speak specifically to optimizing Mirillis Action!, I've found that sometimes reducing the bitrate can help smooth out the recording. If you’re looking to take a break from captures, you might enjoy a fun game like Snow Rider 3D to relax and test your system's performance in a different way.
