Is it 60 or 120fps?

Tue Oct 29, 2013 9:35 am

Hello.
I have a question about how much frames am I getting in game.
I noticed when I play a game, Borderlands2 for example, I get around 100fps, but as soon as I start recording, the frames get capped to 60fps.
So, I want to know does the game frames get capped from 100 to 60fps? or the 60fps are the video frames that I'm recording right now?
I have a habit of not making my self clear, so:
I know the video is 60fps, but do I still get 100~ fps even while I'm recording?
because if the game frames are the one getting capped, then a 120Hz monitor is pointless for someone who record every game.

Red HUD indicates the current recorded FPS, not the in-game fps.

This is not a bug, so there is nothing to fix. This is made on purpose so users can see their current recorded fps. Blue HUD shows your current game fps as the part of bencharmking functionality.

I know what you are talking about here. When recording the frames per second is capped to the frame rate you have set for the recorded video. For example if the FPS is set as 50, the maximum FPS will also be 50. Set it as 30, and again the maximum FPS will NOT go above 30.

So obviously this does not show the 'actual' frames per second, or else the FPS would go much higher that what has been set in certain games. I don't know why this is, but its just how Action seems to work and makes it very hard to show game play with the aim of showing the minimum and maximum FPS while recording.

UPDATE: I understand why this happens now, recorded video FPS not actual FPS. Would be nice to have a feature for actual FPS though, as I have added to a separate post.
