Remove "Run as Administrator" requirement.

Wed Sep 17, 2014 1:55 pm

I read a posting on this forum, but there was no response from Tech Support. The writer wrote, "Overall it is a great product but I hope Mirillis can sort out the installation process, remove the requirement to 'run as administrator' and fix the stability issues." I agree with this. Once it is loaded, it works great. Getting it started is cumbersome, even as administrator.

These are all the same issues I am experiencing. I paid for a product, but I am unable to get any support.

I tried the following:
- changed the "properties" of the desktop icon. I requested the icon be high security access and checked the "run as administrator" option. did not fix.
- in the Security tab of Properties, I added user to authorized list and gave user full control options. did not fix.
- created a task scheduler to launch program without UAC prompts. Did not work; still prompted for Administrator password.

Just like the previous writer, I purchased this for a younger family member that I do not want to release Administrative privileges to. However, as an additional observation, I am the Administrator and the software even prompts me to run the software. This should not happen. Once I double-click on the desktop icon, it should open immediately. As the Administrator (or even the user), why am I still be prompted to load the software? Please answer this to fix these problems. I cannot keep being called every time my family member needs to use your software.

I tried the software on two different computers to see if it was a Windows 7 issue. No fix was found. The problems are still the same.

During evaluation, I did not pay close attention to these problem because I thought it was how the software was loaded in evaluation mode. I was paying closer attention to recording ability, starting/stopping features, screen resolution, jitteriness, etc. Now that I have a full license, these problems should not be there.

I am unable to provide any screen shots because the error/pop-up messages are not being recorded. I need immediate help.

Action! requires administrator rights to run due to technical reasons. The UAC pop-up is a system notification that need to be confirmed or denied depends on your decision.

What kind of answer is this? Your response added no value to this support ticket. I need to know how to remove the constant prompting. Ignoring the fat that I need this resolved for my non-ADMIN users, when I run this software as an ADMIN, I do not need to be prompted EVERY TIME I LOAD THE SOFTWARE!!!

What do I need to do to remove the CONSTANT PROMPTING?

Nothing. That's how the UAC thing works unfortunately. Disabling UAC is a security risk if i'm 100% correct, BUT it's highly unlikely that it will help because the Action.exe has the UAC icon on it, which basically means that it's virtually impossible to run it without the UAC prompt.

Also, even if u do manage to run it without the prompt, u'll probably just run into functionality problems, hence the technical reason Radi mentioned.

Do other people use ur PC?

Yes, other people use my PC, and two people share the other PC that uses this Action software. I am not giving the either of the other two people ADMIN rights to circumvent this issue. I need another solution.

This how Windows system works. However I have found some information about eliminating the UAC prompt here: http://lifehacker.com/how-to-eliminate- ... 493128966/. Please notice that you are following this guide at your own risk.

Could you provide more information on the "technical reason" that Action must be run as administrator?
I am a software developer that has developed Windows applications designed to run in environments with a lot of security restrictions. I do not understand why your program must run as an administrator.
I purchased this for my son so he can capture game play to share with friends. I will not give him full admin rights, and I have tried a couple work-around that run it as administrator with saved credentials (run as administrator shortcut with savecred command switch). In this case, Action hangs on startup. It should run.
Even if it did run it is still a security hole, as anyone with access to the shortcut could change the executable name in the command line to run any application.
As a customer and a software developer, I have to think there is a better solution.

Hey there,

I do have the problem, that my son is sharing my PC. He is using Action to capture his minecraft sessions.

I DON`T WANT HIM LOGGED IN AS ADMIN

I don`t understand why it is impossible to run Action without Admin rights, as I know every other program does...

Please help - My PC suffers, get slow and infected!!!

We need this fixed. We have a very similar situation. My son likes the program, but he has his own user account on the PC. We are not going to lower the UAC settings to allow this program to run as administrator. We require UAC to protect the PC.

I agree with previous posts. As a software developer, there is no necessary requirement that this app should run as administrator.

Please provide a solution promptly so that we can enjoy the program without having to enter the password every time a non-admin wants to run it.

If this will not be fixed, please let the forum know so that we can request appropriate refunds.
