High CPU usage

So, whenever I try to record my CPU usage immediately jumps to 100% and my framerate drops to 30fps max. This issue started occuring when I got a 144Hz monitor so maybe that has something to do with it.

Specs:
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700HQ @ 3.30GHz (overclocked)
GPU: Nvidia GTX1070 8gb
Memory: 16gb
Monitor: 1920x1080 @ 144Hz
Video Type: MP4 resoults in a drop to 30fps and 100% CPU usage. AVI drops to 60fps and CPU usage a bit less than 100%.

I try to record in 1080p @ 60fps, no hardware acceleration.

Does the same issue occurs if you lower your screen refresh rate?

No, it works fine with 60hz, but I don't know why it wouldn't work with a 144hz monitor while recording at 60fps (I guess 60 not being divisible by 144 could be a problem, but I'm no expert).
