MP4 colors off vs AVI and PNG screenshot

Thu Nov 01, 2018 10:39 am

So something is wrong with MP4 recording (Nvidia NVENC), colors are off. Seems like it's some kind of combination of partial color range or some 601/709 mixup.

I have video quality at ultra, bitrate 100%, input range at full 0-255.

Here are lossless PNG examples.

AVC does not perform a lossless compression and that may be the reason.

Question: Does the color issue appear when u play back the video in actionplayer or a video app like VLC? Also do they look faded, like as if they're sort of greyed out or something along those lines?

Video quality after recording

Sat Nov 10, 2018 12:26 pm

Hi, this is my recording settings
ImageImage
My PC - I3-2120, Radeon 550, 4GB RAM, records without slowing or jamming.
Here >http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/124088/< you have a comparison (the first picture is straight from the game, the second is from the recording). The problem is that the recordings seem to lose their saturation and get slightly blurred after recording. The problem disappears as I change the format from mp4 to avi, but then the size of the recording is practically 4x bigger and I do not have enough disk space to allow it. Is there any other chance to solve the problem? Maybe it can be solved by codecs, change of settings, of course without loss of quality, or when editing a video with a program? Please help.

If my assumption is correct, u peeps are having a color "washout" problem. If u have Nvidia cards, check the color range setting in it. To do so, right-click the video card icon (Nvidia) in ur task manager and pick "Nvidia control panel" or something along those lines. In the screenshot included in this post, go to the upper section in the "video" category and u should see a color range option in "advanced settings", set it to full and apply it.

Open Radeon Settings and change profile in Video section.

Thank you for your reply! Also can you tell me which mode is best (most natural/standard) for recording?

edit:

I tried all the modes and none of them look like during the recording. Please help, I care a lot about that. :(
