Lag issue when recording game screen at 1080p

Fri Aug 08, 2025 1:13 am

I'm using Action! 4.38.0 to record gameplay of games like Valorant, CS2, and GTA V. It used to be smooth, but recently when I record at 1920x1080 @ 60fps, the video often stutters, drops frames, or is out of sync with the audio and video.

My PC specs:

CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X

GPU: RTX 3060

RAM: 32GB

1TB NVMe SSD

Windows 11 Pro

I'm wondering if Action! is conflicting with a recent Windows update, or if I need to tweak something in the hardware acceleration / video codec?

This sounds like an encoding bottleneck rather than a hardware issue — your specs are fine.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I’m also seeing issues with the latest version of Screen Recorder – particularly with audio desync when exporting long recordings. Did you happen to test whether disabling hardware acceleration helps?

I’ve run into a similar issue recently, and my setup is pretty close to yours, so I don’t think the hardware is the problem. What helped me was experimenting with the encoder settings in Action!. You can try switching between NVENC and CPU encoding to see if the stuttering changes — for me, the newer NVENC option gave the most stable results.

Sounds like a settings or software issue—try lowering bitrate, using NVENC, and closing background apps; also make sure drivers and Action! are up to date.

Try switching Action!’s hardware encoder to NVENC, lowering the recording bitrate a bit, and turning off background overlays. Stutters usually come from the encoder struggling or the game running in “fullscreen exclusive.” Also check if Windows Game DVR or any other recorder is running in the background—they often cause frame drops.
