Action! Causes FPS Drop Even When Idle?

Thu Oct 09, 2025 3:42 am

Hello everyone,
Has anyone else noticed their game’s FPS dropping just by having Action! open in the background — even when NOT recording?
I’ve been testing this on a few setups, and it appears that Action!’s overlay or background process has a slight impact on performance.
I don't know if this is a common problem, or if it is related to recent updates or the GPU freezing.

Yes, this can happen. Action! runs background services and an overlay hook that interact with DirectX or Vulkan even when it’s idle. These hooks can slightly reduce GPU performance or frame pacing, especially on certain drivers or multi-monitor setups.

To minimize the FPS drop:

Disable the Action! overlay in settings.

Turn off hardware acceleration or preview window if active.

Make sure you’re on the latest GPU drivers and Action! version.

If the issue persists, close Action! completely when not recording.

Return to “Action! Screen and Game Recorder”
