Intel Quick Sync

Tue Oct 09, 2012 9:11 pm

Is there actually no way at all to get it to work without connecting a monitor to the iGPU?
Doesnt it work because the iGPU is deactivated without a monitor?

Thanks in advance

Yes, unfortunately, monitor must be physically connected to Intel HD card.
The problem does not exist on laptops with NVIDIA Optimus technology, but all desktops with additional graphics card on PCI-E are affected.

The best workaround for this problem is just to connect with another cable Intel HD card to the monitor you use and use
monitor input of your high performance NVIDIA or AMD card. This way you will never watch the Intel HD. It requires to have extended desktop for Intel HD input but it should not affect PC performance in any way and Quick Sync Video acceleration will be always available.

Have you tried this? I don't have desktop with SB/IVB, but I thought this workaround works with any application.

Moster, try it too :)
Desktop (Intel i7-970, ATI 5870, Windows 7 x64)
Acer Aspire TimelineX 3830TG (Intel i5-2410M, nVidia GT540M, Windows 7 x64)
PS Vita, Nokia N8

Im definitely going to try this and report back. Thanks for that, vivan :)

edit: so I got this to work, but its a performance killer. my fps in cs:go were cut by half. that doesnt happen with normal recording.

This workaround works. Thanks Vivan!
We will add the tutorial for this workaround.

Yes, it works. But is it normal that the performance is that bad? I would have expected less fps drops than with normal recording.

The overall performance is affected by many factors, depending on game engine, cpu model, pcie graphicss card model etc. What is recording fps difference when recording in avi and mp4? Do you experience it with all games and also when recording desktop?

Got another small question to that topic

What kind of chipset/cpu combination would you recomend for using Quick Sync to its full potential? I was thinking about upgrading next spring and go with a z68 or z77 chipset. Is there any difference regarding Action!?

Thank you
