Action doesn't record Dirt 3 (FIXED)

Tue Nov 15, 2011 7:44 pm

I tried recording a dirt 3 race using Action!, but the output is black, there is sound but no video signal playback. Anyone has this game installed and can confirm?

Also the fps countdown in the game looks bad.

Please fix :D

ps: Using Nvidia Optimus, Win7 x64.

Thank you very much for reporting!

I suspect game is running in DX11?
Is it possible to set up game configuration to run DX9 or DX10 and check recording?
Can you also please check if disabling AA solves problem?

We should fix it soon .

We are ordering this game and it should be fixed soon .

I tried setting the game in LOW graphics preset, and lowering the resolution a bit, problems still happens.
Multisampling is OFF in graphics options, and it's not forced by the Nvidia driver because all advanced 3d settings are set to factory.
I tried other games, for example Heroes of Newerth (DX9), and recording works fine, so it's not an system-wide issue.

OH and btw, is the nag-screen forced in the trial version? I don't see any option to turn that off.
Also, you plan introducing an HIGH quality recording mode? At this moment the maximum is the 'Normal' preset.
In normal mode there are a few artefacts when recording desktop for example, text looks a bit blurry, not too much, but not eye perfect.

Great software overall, consumes little CPU and export speeds are fantastic.

Thanks for prompt reply.

It is required to activate product to disable about window.
Yes we plan to add high quality and loseless quality presets in future Action! versions.

With Dirt3 you can try universal work-around: to record windowed game via desktop region,
this should work for all games, even not supported yet DX7/8. Select desktop region mode and
enable snap to windows option to quickly fit region to your game window.

Thank you for a feedback!

Dear Ghost,

I meant the watermark in the video, not the nag when I close the program.

Thanks for the workout solution.

Action will become soon the best software recorder :D

PS: how about the licensing? If I buy 1.x now, my license will work in future 2.x 3.x etc?

activation will remove it too.

My guess - YV12 (4:2:0 subsampling).
It means that video is not RGB, but YUV (one luma (Y) and two chrominance (UV) components). And resolution of chroma (= color) is halfed (so it 12 bit-per-pixel in average, not 24).
But even if video recorded in RGB24 it would be converted to YV12 when encoding to H.264 anyway, since there is no hardware that supports 4:4:4 decoding (and even not much software can do it)...

But, maybe usage of 10 bit or 4:2:2 (that have a little better software support) can improve this...
Desktop (Intel i7-970, ATI 5870, Windows 7 x64)
Acer Aspire TimelineX 3830TG (Intel i5-2410M, nVidia GT540M, Windows 7 x64)
PS Vita, Nokia N8

Like Vivan said watermark is in trial version only.

Upgrade to version 2.0 will not be free, but we do not expect to release version 2.0 soon.

4:2:2 :)

We consider current "normal quality" as perfect for common non-professional use.
But we are aware that some users will need loseless quality and we plan to meet this expectations.

What is your desktop resolution? Is it 1366 width?

Yes. Somehow the text quality looks blurish ... Not nice and crisp.
