Cannot edit recorded .avi files

Mon Apr 15, 2013 7:41 am

Hi,

I've been recording gaming sessions with Action! and when I upload the entire file to Youtube, everything is perfect.

I now want to start editing the videos, but when I want to load the files I recorded with Action! into Ulead VideoStudio8, or Cyberlink PowerDirector for editing, I get error messages and the files won't even load. The errors are something like:

"an error occurred while opening this media file in the media library. It may be because the file is broken, an unsupported format, protected video content, or for another reason".

This problem occurs with both video editing programs.

I can load the files in Quicktime or Windows Media and watch them without problems, but for some reason, I cannot load them in video editing programs. Are there certain codecs I need? What else could be causing this issue?

I recorded in .AVI format, I've tried with or without recording audio, in different qualities, I do no use "perfect video match-mode" but each file has the same problem: cannot be loaded for editing.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Daniel

I use VirtualDub to edit (cut) record files. Haven't try with anything else, but vdub does the job, so I'm satisfied. It's very minimal editing though...

Hi,

Thanks for the info. I downloaded VirtualDub and it works! I only need to cut/trim videos and then paste bits and pieces together anyway so hopefully this program will allow me to do that. I haven't gone into detail with VirtualDub yet, but at least it's loading the files properly and I seem to be able to edit.

Thank you!

Daniel

I also found out I can use the files in Windows Movie Maker, which is actually a great and easy tool for editing movies and putting music to them and stuff, just what I needed
