Can't record desktop?

Hi!

So I have been using Action to pretty much record Minecraft, but then I decided to start recording games like Happy Wheels. But when I chose the desktop mode, HUD doesn't appear in to any of the corners. Then I was like, hmm let's try the desktop region mode, NOTHING! So I would like to know how to fix it.
If it helps, I have: HP Phoenix Envy computer, Windows 8 ._.
