What resize filter does Action! use?

I've tried for the first time to record a 1080p Diablo 3 session, into 720p. When I look at the 720p capture, it looks aweful, the letters are ugly and all warped. I'm not sure what resize filter (or technique) Action! uses, but if I record in 1080p and re-encode it in 720p, it looks SO MUCH better.

Is there way to change the resize filter? (something like Spline36 would be great)

Update: ok, so I tried to record in "Windowed (Fullscreen)" instead of plain "Fullscreen" and the downscalling was perfect. So the problem is with the resize filter in fullscreen mode... what's up with that?

Could you provide more information about your graphic in-game settings? It would be great if you could also attach your Video Recording Settings and Recording Settings.

This is my settings for Action!:

(simple, really...)

Video sample of what I was talking about (to watch in 720p resolution to really notice anything):

and a sample recorded today:

As you can see, today's recording looks perfect but not yesterdays'... strange. Used the same video settings in game (in case you really want to see):

I've got no idea why yesterday's recording recorded so awefully. Any idea?

31 hours later, mister radi, care to theorize?

As I've just retried recording my Diablo 3 game (fullscreen 1920x1080) in AVI 720p mode, I'm *still* getting that problem. Mister radi, can you please explain or pass this to the devs?

MP4 720p recording has the proper resize filter though...

Frankly I don't really know what's happening. My best guess is that Diablo 3 is using a weird display mechanism which is hard to downscale. Try contacting our support team for direct help, they will be able to investigate this issue closer.

Now that you've said that, I tried recording World of Warcraft (the same way), and it downscaled it perfectly. So it would indeed seem this problem is particular to Diablo 3..

Is there any other option than widescreen in 1920x1080?

- Fullscreen
- Windowed
- Windowed (Fullscreeen)

Those are the 3 options. The problem occurs when playing in "fullscreen", the normal everyday directx fullscreen game mode. Switching to "windowed (fullscreen)" makes it work, but you can't change the gamma correction within the game (I would prefer to do some gamma correction, but if I had no choice, I guess it could be ok).

So to the devs: Diablo 3 in fullscreen 1920x1080, scalled to 720p, results in very poor downscalling quality, nothing is readable at all.
