MP4 format not recording 60fps?

Sun May 18, 2014 11:24 pm

I tried to the first time to record in MP4 format (720p@60fps). While I was playing the HUD was showing 30fps, and now that I'm out of the game and checking the actual recording, it is indeed just 30fps.

Why is that? Why offer 60fps if it locks at 30fps? (fyi I'm playing Diablo 3, vsync'ed at 60fps, and I'm almost all the time at 60fps (some slowdowns here and there))

MP4 is limited to 720p 60p with software encoding.

Well, Action! shows "MP4" with "60 fps", but when I record it shows 30fps and the recorded file is indeed in 30fps. That's why I'm asking why we have the option to record at 60fps if stops at 30... :?:

This is Action! settings:

Just did a bit throughout testing here now, and for some reason, neither I can get more than 30fps with MP4 in any recording mode. (latest 1.19.2 used)
No issues with avi btw.
Is there anything specific needed to be set in order to reach higher frames? Otherwise I believe there is a bug.
I suggest go contact the support for further help.

As I stated earlier. Software encoding is limited to 720p 30p even if 60p is selected. To record in higher settings you need a hardware that supports Intel Quick Sync or AMD APP technology.

Well... couldn't you GREY OUT the above 30fps options in the pulldown menu, if QuickSync isn't used? I understand and accept MP4 is limited to 30fps, but showing the 50 and 60fps options is stupid if it's not going to work.

Wouldn't you agree?

I agree, but I'm not the dev. I can suggest this for a next release but I guess there was a reason why this hasn't been grayed out.
