"Action! has stopped working"

Fri Jul 04, 2014 1:14 am

Hello.

Just today, I purchased the full version of Mirillis Action! only to have the program fail to actually work. The program can only be launched on the administrator account, for some odd reason. On every other account on the computer, this error is given "Action! has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

This is quite frustrating, I have tried re-installing, changing the properties, uninstalling on the admin account and installing on my account, and several other methods, installing the file to different paths and locations on the computer, and all have failed.

I am very angry, and would appreciate service and advice as soon as possible. :evil:

Thank you,
Jacob Brown

There is a error in your video files (where you have your recordings at) first make sure you are not running Action! then just change the name where your video file is :geek: and make a new folder to put your future videos in then run up Action! and it will not crash :)

Unfortunately, this was not successful. I attempted to create a new folder attached to the old Action! folder only to open it, click Action! and get the same error message. I appreciate your attempt in helping me, but I'm afraid I will need another suggestion. To be clear, the icon for Action! appears in the middle of my screen, then stops and gives me the error message, shutting it down. Basically, I don't even see the main menu.

I had this same issue and here is how I have worked around it.

There are 2 issues;
1. DEFAULT OUTPUT FOLDER PATHS: Action sets the output folder paths to the user who installs it e.g. "C:\Users\James\Videos\Action!\". This obviously creates issues for other users on the computer because they don't have access to this folder. There are a couple of ways around this but the easiest way is after install, open Action and reconfigure the paths to a central folder location that all users can access. The other option is to edit the paths registry file described in the next step below.

2. MISSING REGISTRY KEYS FOR OTHER USERS: Action does not recreate the registry keys for users other than the original install user. Therefore you need to export the registry keys from the original install user and then import them for the other users. To do this;
a. Make sure you are logged on as the original install user and checked the Action is working.
b. Run program: regedt32
c. Find the key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mirillis]
d. Right click on the Mirillis folder and select Export.
e. Name the file whatever you like and save it somewhere you can access it from when logged on as your other users.
f. Logoff and Logon as your other user(s)
g. Before proceeding to the next step, you can edit the exported registry file using notepad and update the output folder paths if you wish. Otherwise you can skip this step.
h. Double click on the exported registry file from step e. and click yes to import to import it.
i. Repeat steps e-h for your other users.

UNFORTUNATELY, the users do need to have Administrator access to run the Action. This is REALLY dissappointing because as others have pointed out, I have children who I bought this software for and I would prefer for them to not have admin rights. (I think there is a way around this too and I will post back once if I work it out).

Lastly, for what it is worth, I also find that Action can be a bit unstable especially on closure. Sometimes it does not close properly and when this happens, other than rebooting, it won't start again. In these instances I have found that it leaves a couple of processes running in the background (Action_x64.bin and Action_x32.bin). If you use Task Manager to end these processes, Action will then start up again okay.

Overall it is a great product but I hope Mirillis can sort out the installation process, remove the requirement to run as administrator and fix the stability issues.

Hopefully this is of some help.
