Action will not record my game.

I'm afraid I do not know my PC specs but I can say that I am currently running Windows 8.1 on a Dell Precision m6500 laptop. Unfortunately I cannot get Action to record my game, Sonic Adventure DX for PC. I've followed this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXIvOCxJcTM but I can't get Action to work since my game application takes up the entire screen and the little Action counter that is supposed to be displayed in the top right hand corner is nowhere to be seen. When I push the hotkey button nothing happens. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thank you for your time.

Have you tried running your game first and then switch back to desktop to run Action?
