TF2 issues (desync / performance / still playing)

Mon Dec 01, 2014 7:29 pm

Hi.

First of all I wish to thank Mirillis team for your great work, as a customer since 2 years.

I've noticed since few weeks some issues with Team Fortress 2 that I didn't have with any other game (don't tested in other Source Engine based games). Tested updating and restoring drivers.

- I can't record at 60fps in this game because it causes audio desync. Tested in Original AVI and MP4+GPU.

- When I starts the recording, it drops me from 160-200fps (in spawn looking at the floor) to 30-50fps (in any resolution, fps or format) without harddisk/cpu/gpu overload. Usually I can record at 1080p@60fps in any other game getting more than 100fps smoothly.

- If I close the game, after a while Steam says that I still playing until I close Action!. I've noticed a similar issue with some desktop applications. E.g.: I can't update Action! if I don't close "Corel PaintShop Pro" because some dll's are locked.

I already know that this game is old and every year runs worse since the Orange Box update, but I wonder if there's a solution or just happens to me.

My Specs:
Intel i7 990x
Asus Rampage Black Edition
Asus 2x 290X DC2OC
6GB G-Skill CL6-1600
WD Caviar Black

Thank you for all.
Sorry about my English.

Edit:
OS: Windows 8.1 64bit
Screen Res: Tested in 1280x720, 1920x1080, 2560x1440

Edit:
Tested in L4D2.
In this I only have the desync at 60fps issue.

Edit (21/12/2014):
Now pCARS capturing at 60fps using AMD APP also desyncs, maybe since last driver update (Omega).

Recording 60fps 1920*1200 AVI flawlessly here with a 660ti card. You should easily hit 60fps too with that setup. Desync could mean a problem. Did you try change the in-game settings? (Set to default)

Hi and thanks for reply.

Yes, I tried to set lower settings and lower resolution but the recorded video after a minute ends completely desynchronized. Anyway even in main menu without a map loaded, drops me from 300fps (the max_fps limit) to 50-60 (watching the net_graph info).
As you say seems to be an issue with AMD GPU cards or a combination of HW like my setup.
