Issues with recording

I have been trying to record some footage for Youtube, but whenever I try recording the videos always end up empty. They end up with 0x0 resolution and 1 second of black screen footage and 0MBs of storage used. I have been using it in the Active Desktop Region as it doesn't seem to pick up my game as a recordable thing. My fans have been asking for this video but I cant put it out and I want to fix this so I can give it to them. I tried both AVi and MP4 recording formats and nothing seems to work. Could I get some help please?
