Why not use a specific software to record with your device? Action! isn't meant to be use to capture the output of the capturing software, per say. Also what could be wrong for you is that your capturing software is outputing the video through a video renderer which Action! can't record. Most recording software outputs their video with the EVR renderer, which can't be captured "on screen" with Action!. Check your software and see if you can change the video renderer to something else (Overlay Mixer might work, or maybe VMR 9).
But your main problem is not with Action!, it's with your recording software in the first place.
