Action stops working after I stop a video

When I stop recording any MP4 format video, action glitches out and won't do anything and I have to close it with task manager. When I open the app back I can't play back the recorded video in any way. Opening the file location and trying to play it with Windows Media Player causes an error with the media player. I can record AVI files just fine. I use an HP Envy dv6 with Windows 8.
