Action refuses to record microphone

Hello, my action will only record system sounds, I have my microphone selected and it works fine in other things such as Skype, games and other recording software. action says I have it selected but when I listen, there is no mic audio, I look in Sony Vegas and the track for mic audio isn't even there, so it's just not recording it. i am recording in avi and I have the box selected to put microphone a separate track, and even if I put them in the same track, it doesn't record it. please help me, thank you
