How soon can we expect higher resolutions for hardware rec?

I can't say what resolution Nvidia NVENC supports as I only have an AMD GPU, but Intel QuickSync supports 1440p and AMD APP supports 1080p.
So as of now, the only way to record at 4k is to use AVI or MP4 (non-hardware), but AVI has very messed up output videos (example: https://youtu.be/E9CSxI6_qQk) and MP4 is VERY taxing on the system.
