AVI file only plays sound

Hello,
So, i have a problem with .avi.files.
I record my desktop or any game and the .avi file is created but i can't reproduce it with any software... the only way i can reproduce the .avi file is whit the Action! Software. mp4 files work fine but arnt as good of quality. Anyone know how to fix this?
