Issues when recording BF3 (with Crossfire) (INVESTIGATING)

Fri Dec 16, 2011 7:26 pm

I've been trying to record my BF3 gaming with Action and am having issues related to the framerate.

My in-game framerate is ~45fps.

When recording at 60fps I get a really annoying combination of too fast and too slow. When playing back a recording it first plays at high speed, faster than it should, and the it gets stuck, showing the exact same frame 15 times. This pattern repeats every second or so. Stepping through the recording frame by frame with Splash Pro EX, it looks it recorded every one of the frames rendered by the game, but since it only recorded 45 frames for each second it repeats the last frame 15 times in order to make up the missing frames.

As a solution I tried recording at only 30fps, since my in-game fps is solidly above that, but then it looks like it is recording multiple frames on top of each other. Screenshot.

Thank you for reporting problem.

Do you experience this problem with any other game?
What resolution do you record, can you please check if problem occurs when recording to 480p resolution?
Does Action! show dx11 on HUD?

Yes, it happens in other games. I just tried recording a bit of Serious Sam 3 and I had the same problem, even when recording at 480p.

I record at 1920x1200, but I just checked and the problem happens at 480p as well.

Sorry I don't have any solutions. I just wanted to chime in and say that my recordings in Battlefield 3 don't have this problem. Record 1920 x 1200 @ 30fps.

But based on Mr. Alpha's last reply it is not a BF3 problem and more of something on his system not working as it should.

Thank you for a feedback. We suspect that Action! has some problems with your graphics card.
Your 5970 model contains dual GPU and this can be a source of the problem.
Is it possible to disable one gpu through catalyst to test it with 1 gpu working only?

Disabling crossfire does solve the problem. Now the duplicate frames are spread out evenly and the motion is much smoother. Not exactly a perfect solution since disabling crossfire has a big performance impact.

Thank you for this confirmation.
We will try to fix this soon.

I will also change the topic to show that it is conneted with crossfire.
