Action causes severe stuttering when recording CS:GO

Sun Mar 31, 2019 3:04 pm

Hello,

I have an issue with Action which I noticed only with CS:GO for now.

I'm running CS:GO with the -d3d9ex parameter. When I'm not recording, there's no stuttering. When I'm using ShadowPlay to record, I still see no stuttering. But once I enable TimeShift in Action, the game starts rubberbanding horribly, it's unplayable.

Of course ShadowPlay is disabled during this. I'm using NVidia NVENC at 60 Mbps. I tested TF2 and osu!, issues were not present in these games.

I have purchased Action today, used the same e-mail that I'm typing this message from.

Please help.

Try running the game without this parameter and see if the same issue occur.

I'll give it a shot in about 6 hours and I'll let you know, but I have to admit that this parameter is a huge convenience (allows you to alt-tab in and out of the game nearly instantly, also avoids visual bugs and crashes related to alt-tabbing) and honestly, I'd rather go back to ShadowPlay rather than use Action and play without this parameter.

Nope, doesn't help.

Also noticed the game won't launch if Action is running and RivaTuner Statistics Server is enabled.

Does the stuttering occurs while recording without Time-Shift?

Yes.
I decided to mess around a bit more, and I think I got a clue.

My current configuration is that I'm using a FreeSync enabled monitor (iiyama GB2560HSU) and I have "G-Sync Compatible" enabled. I'm using RTSS with framerate limit set to 142, so I'm always in the FreeSync range.
As I mentioned earlier, when I was testing CS:GO, I had to close RTSS, this means that the framerate limit was gone. This is when the severe stuttering I'm talking about happens.
Then I figured out that RTSS will stop conflicting with Action if I enable both "Stealth mode" and "Custom Direct3D support" in RTSS. The game then launched with framerate limit of 142 enabled, and in this configuration, the stuttering is gone. The game is silky smooth.

Funny enough, with G-Sync and RTSS's framerate limit disabled, the stuttering is present again, but it's not as apparent and annoying as it originally was.
In all cases, CS:GO's fps_max value is set to 0.

For me the issue is more or less solved, but it would be great if you guys could have a deeper look into it. If you need any more details, I can help too.

Okay nevermind, stuttering is gone but now my mouse skips around every once in a while.
Man, this $25 recording software just keeps giving!
