Action! Crashes When Starting Recording

Sun Apr 05, 2020 12:20 am

I've seen a bunch of posts about Action! crashing when recording has ended. My problem is: it's crashing the moment I hit the Record hot-key. The DXDiag is attached, and fake-renamed to .ZIP so it can be saved properly.

I'm attempting to record HDR10 with HEVC/NVENC. I'm also pulling in a 3rd sound source (you guys REALLY have to save those extra sound sources into the same .MP4). HUD is disabled, and I'm not looking at the Preview window; its Tab is in the background.

Nothing I've been able to change around seems to matter. Try to record, and CRASH.

Any thoughts? Action! has been a troublesome app for me for the last year, so I haven't used it much. But with the HDR10 recording, I'm keenly interested in getting it to work.

Thanks!

Does the same issue occur when you record in AVI or when you change a hardware acceleration?

When I switch to AVI, the crashes cease, yes. Some issue with the interaction between Action! and the hardware encoder on the GPU?

Press Windows key + R to open "Run" window.
Type msinfo32 and click OK to open System Information.
Now click File -> Save. Save the file on your desktop, this can take a while.
Attach generated file to your reply.

SysInf can't be attached. "Too large".

Someone from support emailed me directly and suggested I change the GPU being used to record. It'd defaulted to GPU1, so I moved it to GPU0 and that seems to have stopped the crashing. Another problem has cropped up and I'll start a new thread.

Thanks.

I found this thread yesterday when my Action started showing the exact same issue!

No matter if I'm in a game or simply record the screen, it crashes about 3 seconds in after I pushed "record".

The Internet is of no use since I can't find anything on that problem.

I updated my graphics driver, looked for updates on Win10 and even tried out older versions of Action since the newest one stopped working for no particular reason.

I even tried changing the video format from MP4 to AVI as someone requested, but I can only change it when I'd record the desktop, under Video Games it won't even allow me to pick AVI.

It also crashes when I try link it with my YouTube account,...

What is the issue? What can I do??

Hello.

Please go to Action's location and open crash folder. Send us files that are stored there. You can upload them on Dropbox or Google Drive and send a sharing link.
Also, is there a chance that you are the SCP user that gave us a review at trustpilot few days ago?

I have no idea what happened to my reply I made weeks ago, but what ever I guess.

There is nothing in the crash report folder.

The issue still occurs. It also simply decides to shut itself off after a few moments of starting the program, I don't even need to push a button anymore for Action to crash.

Action is even up to date with the updates, but it still does what ever the hell it wants, hence, me not being able to record or screenshot anything.

And no, I'm not that SCP that rated you anywhere.

Thank you for your fast reply (I hope mine will show up as well).

I uninstalled and re-installed the newest version and the issue with it crashing after screenshot seems to be fixed (?`), still crashes as soon as I push record (either in-game or monitor or simply just a specific area).
I also tried to switch from MP4 to AVI (which it didn't let me do before the update as well).

... Also, I did try to add the DxDiag.txt as a file, but an error message appears. (Error: Invalid file extension: DxDiag.txt)....

I put the file on my dropbox, I hope you can use the link. :(
