Add E-AC-3 audio codec support please

Mon Feb 27, 2017 4:34 am

E-AC-3 audio codec is still not supported which is more and more used especially with MKV files which means a bunch of videos will open with no sound.

Splash developer always had one of the worst support I ever encountered. They either never answer or answer in a few YEARS! Splash player updates are extremely rare. It still doesn't support HTML in subtitles, which was reported and asked I 7-8 years ago or something.

So don't expect E-AC-3 support earlier than 2025.

I did ask firmly last year too the Mirllis team to add faster support for:
- E-AC-3 audio codec
and
- DTS sound
As usual they suck a grand time on this

Such a pity for this nice video player that promised a lot... :x

Mirillis Team - do wake up and get proper updates for your customers?
Or do you have to buy the rights to use those 2 codecs ? and it is too expensive for you?

For God's sake at least be decent and give us some answers!
Because there are less and less ".mkv" files that can be played on your Splash 2.1

Why are you guys saying that Splash 2.0 cannot play DTS audio?

I have DTS test video file (.m2ts) from some Blu-ray disk and I can play that video file without any problem.
And audio track in that video file is DTS-HD MA (5.1, 48Khz).

we don't play bluray discs
we just want to play our mkv files that use those codecs... and this splash 2.1 doesn't have them.. period

Ring a Bell to the Mirillis big slackers programmers !!

Dan,

m2ts file is not Blu-ray disk, it is just a file container, like mkv.
I think the reason that I can play m2ts and mkv files with DTS audio is because I have ffdshow installed. Try it and see if you can play your MKV files.

I think he was referring to the E-AC3 audio compression and not the DTS codec, ffdshow wont fix it, ffdshow is a requirement to run file convert/compression software like RipBot264 and video enhance programs like SVP4 Manager which I use on a regular basis.

E-AC-3 plays fine on on MPC-BE 32/64 & MPC-Home Cinema, the SPLASH devs just need to update the players compatibility to support multiple video and audio streams.

Sure it will play DTS audio codec, however it will not play E-AC-3 digital audio compression which is the enhanced successor to Dolby Digital AC-3.

Fingers crossed they'll have an update before the turn of the century.
