File Types Association Bug

Upon a fresh Install of Splash (Latest Version) - You can see that the player comes with various Icons for all the supported files (MKV, MP4, AVI, etc)
After install, Splash Player does not make any associations with supported file types. There is not any option to do so either.

One has to manually set these file associations. This was not a problem in the past but after completely uninstalling and Re-installing multiple times, checking Permissions for files / folders, there is no file association.

It seems that Splash is trying to behave more like an "App" rather than a proper application.

You cannot simply double click and open files any longer. Is there anyway to register/unregister file types to make Splash the Default / Not Default player?

Is there any fix to this?

You can set Splash as a default video player using "default apps" system settings.
Or you can right click on video file and select "Open with" -> "Choose another app", select Splash and check "Always use this app to open video files"

Piotr thank you for providing a potential solution however for your solution 1) Splash does not appear in the default Apps section and 2) This solution does not work reliably and it can actually break functionality of file associated with MP4 or MKV

The above "work arounds" only shows that Splash has done something to the installer to make it behave more like an "App" instead of an "Application"

There is no more option in the installer to associate with user selected video files.

Thank you for your reply.
